Cinnamon Sticky Rolls

Because of the snow storm, we couldn't get down to the store. Being that we were out of milk and other things I didn't have very many options for breakfast so I decided to make cinnamon rolls instead! I'm thinking it was a pretty darn good idea considering when they started baking my mouth was watering, haha.

Start by adding 1 cup of heavy cream into a low heat pot
Mix in 1/4 cup of granulated sugar
Along with 1/4 cup of vegetable oil
Followed by a heaping teaspoon of dry active yeast
Stir together and then add in 2 cups of flour. Mix until it forms a dough.
Remove the dough from the pot and place in a greased bowl with plastic wrap tight on top. Let rise for about an hour.
Now you can add in 1/4 cup of flour...
1 teaspoon of salt...
1/2 teaspoon of baking soda...
Finally, 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder. Mix together and let sit in the fridge until you are ready to make the rolls.
Now that your ready to make the rolls, roll out the dough onto a floured surface. (The thinner the dough the better)
Melt 1/2 a stick of butter and dump onto the dough. Use your fingers or a pastry brush to spread the butter all over the dough
Sprinkle cinnamon all over the top of the butter. Maybe 1 tablespoon to 1 1/2 tablespoons.
Sprinkle on some brown sugar. Maybe 1/2 cup
This might sound weird, but sprinkle on a dash of salt. (This helps even out the sweetness)
Very gently begin to roll the roll into a log. (Fairly tight so they don't fall apart when you cut them)
Slice the log into 1/2 inch pieces (I toss the end pieces because they seem to fall apart easy but that's up to you)
Place the rolls onto a sprayed baking sheet. (Fairly tight so they don't open up while baking) Let sit on the sheet for about 20 minutes before placing them in a 375 degree oven for 15-20 minutes.
While the rolls bake, and your mouth begins to water, haha, you can begin making the icing to go on top. Start by melting 1/3 cup butter and dumping into a large bowl.
Next, whisk in 2 cups of powdered sugar...
Along with 1 1/2 teaspoons of vanilla extract.
Whisk until it is the texture of a gooey glaze. (If it is too thick you can add in a little warm water until it thins out)
As soon as the rolls are ready, you can drizzle the frosting all over the top of the rolls. It might looks like you are drowning the rolls at first but give it 1 or 2 minutes and the frosting will seep into all the layers of the roll making it the most PERFECT cinnamon roll you've ever had.... maybe I'm exaggerating but they are pretty darn good. Enjoy!!
